A Mother’s Message

Written by Christina Reich

The face of courage and undaunting faith,

Skin now weathered and lines to trace,

With mouths now plenty and choices few,

You sit and wonder, will the government come through.

Just one in a sea of many, you stand alone,

Your brood of babes left to atone,

For the loss of a loved one you held so dear,

The present and future remain unclear.

Captured on film for all to see,

An image to remind us of how things could be,

Your story is important even today,

As the economy plummets and jobs go away.

Scrimp and save and make it stretch,

Your management of a dollar our minds should etch,

Waste and excess cannot remain,

If they do our faces and yours will be one in the  same.
